Hi. I was just wondering, how many active users are there in Dragon Tavern nowadays? I mean, there are thousands of characters, I know, but many must be from inactive players - who, in turn, may have more than one character (I, for example, own eight characters).

So, is there any official number? Or an estimate, perhaps?

Dragon Tavern seems to have reached and passed its heyday. Perhaps soon it will grow to be another ghost town on the internet, no longer populated, but with every word and gesture of its community perfectly preserved until the servers die.

I sincerely hope not. It's a simple game, with simple playing mechanics, but I find it very entertaining. The forum does seem to be a bit deserted, though...

Ashen, so melodramatic.

Although you're right that the game was busier in its first year when it was newer than it is now.

It can't disappear!

Dragon Tavern is one of those rare internet games that are very simple but have a great atmosphere. You really can play it for 10 minutes a day and still feel that you're making progress.

Yeah there's lots of other simple browser games but they all have cooldowns of some sort so you have to check back a lot and they almost always lack atmosphere. Also it's a relief to get away from all those multi games in the genre. This game actually get my stress level down.

Also, it doesn't matter how many other people are playing, as there's no interaction. So even if I'm the last person left here, I'll still be able to enjoy it in my own way. (And in about 15 years I'll be top of all the rankings!)

But it would be nice if we were to have some in-game interaction. Even if it means it only happens on special events, or something like that. Of course, that should take place through the forum, but, as I said, it's just not happening.

Not only can it disappear, its disappearance is inevitable. That said, it likely won't happen for quite some time. The forums population of a game is always dwarfed by the actual game's population, and I imagine the game itself has at least a year or two more of life left in it, even if the forums community is on its deathbed.

Well, technically speaking, even giants like WoW are bound to dissapear eventually.

My question was not referring to the time DT has left (which, of course, I can only hope is a long one), but on the number of people who play the game, even if we know nothing about them.

I can't imagine us ever shutting down Dragon Tavern. Even if we had zero players we'd keep it up. :P
